Focus on LAW

Will Cheek leads the firm's Alcoholic Beverage Team and provides licensing and regulatory compliance advice to restaurants, hotels, bars, clubs and venues to a statewide roster of clients in Tennessee, from publicly-traded companies to small, chef-owned restaurants.  He authors Last Call discussing Tennessee liquor and beer news and is the only Tennessee attorney named as Best Lawyers in America® 2011 for Food and Beverage Law. 

Mr. Cheek advises entrepreneurs forming new businesses and serves as "on call general counsel" for clients.    Representative clients include KraftCPAs PLLC, one of Middle Tennessee's largest independent accounting firms, Gigi's Cupcakes, the sweet sensation now opening stores nationwide, and Diamond Gusset, LLC, makers of Diamond Gusset Jeans. 

Mr. Cheek co-founded the legal clinic at the Belmont University Center for Entrepreneurship with Dr. Jeff Cornwall, and teaches Business Formation and Contracts as a guest lecturer at the University.  Mr. Cheek appeared among Nashville Post magazine's 2010 "In Charge" list recognizing individuals who are "making things happen in the Nashville area." Named to the Nashville Business Journal's "Best of the Bar" for six years, he was also recognized as one of the top 40 young leaders in Nashville by the Tennessean, and he was named one of the "Top 40 Under 40" by Business Nashville.  He completed the 2007 Class of Leadership Nashville and is an ongoing presenter at Opening Retreat.

A member of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations and a former chair of the Nashville Bar Association bankruptcy committee, Mr. Cheek has produced and presented numerous topics, workshops and seminars for Continuing Legal Education. He was a Barrister member of the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court, and served three times as program chair for the Lawyers' Association for Women (Marion Griffon chapter).

Mr. Cheek is a member of the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators and regularly attends national liquor conferences. He is a Founding Member of the Alliance of Alcohol Industry Attorneys and Consultants, a sustaining member of the National Association of Alcoholic Beverage Licensing Attorneys and an associate member of and legal counsel to the National Association of Licensing and Compliance Professionals.    

An active volunteer to several local charities, Mr. Cheek has served as Chairman of the Board of the Center for Nonprofit Management, the Metro Nashville Arts Commission, the Belcourt Theatre, and Community Resource Center. He serves on the board of Children's House of Nashville, Inc., the Belcourt Theatre, and as legal counsel to Artrageous, Inc., and Nashville Pride.  He has chaired or co-chaired a number of charitable events, including Artrageous, Oyster Easter and Salute to Excellence.

Mr. Cheek graduated from New York's Columbia University and received his Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1991. He clerked for the Honorable Justice Martha Craig Daughtrey at the Tennessee Supreme Court in 1992.

Mr. Cheek resides with his wife and fellow bar member, Kathryn Barnett, and their children, Christopher and Ella, in the historic Otto Giers residence near Hillsboro Village.
