MLK Fellowship Breakfast

12th annual Fellowship Breakfast to celebrate the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Monday, January 21, 2013, nearly 500 people converged on the Hutton Hotel in downtown Nashville to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Bone McAllester Norton’s 12th annual Fellowship Breakfast. The morning began with firm founder and chairman Charles W. Bone welcoming the crowd.  Rabbi Shana R. Mackler from The Temple, Congregation Ohabai Sholom led the crowd in a prayer, followed by a beautiful, patriotic medley of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Jewelee Peters. Southern Word‘s Sean Smith then delivered a powerful poem entitled “Black Poem.” Afterward, Americana trio Merging Blue took the stage and performed “Change Is Gonna Come,” followed by “Mountain Move.” Attorney Stacey A. Garrett introduced Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, who addressed the crowd on the importance of education moving the city forward before introducing the guest speaker of the morning, Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton, Jr. Wharton delivered an insightful, moving speech that showcased his love for his city and state with his humorous side, and he had the standing-room-only crowd to its feet when he stated that Tennessee is a great place to honor Dr. King. Southern Word‘s Mani Jones and Amanda Howell followed Mayor Wharton with their poem, “Lunch.” The morning was capped off with the tradition of Reflections with guests commenting on what Dr. King’s life meant to them.

Thanks to everyone who celebrated the day with us. We look forward to celebrating with you in 2014!
