Anne Martin Will Give an Employment Law Update for the Nashville Bar Association’s 2013 Practice Institutes

Sean Kirk Will Discuss Pursuing Deficiency Judgments After a Foreclosure Sale at the Upcoming Tennessee Real Estate Law Conference

Bone McAllester Norton attorney Sean C. Kirk is on the faculty of the sixth annual Tennessee Real Estate Law Conference, presented by Tennessee Attorneys Memo. Sean’s presentation, “Pursuing Deficiency Judgments After a Foreclosure Sale in Light of Greenbank V. Sterling Ventures LLC,” will give background on the prior “grossly inadequate” standard, as well as on the TCA 35-5-118, and then will present facts on the Greenbank decision, including the analysis of the “materially less” standard and how the impact of the court’s decision affects lenders.

Examples include a comparison of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind and The Wind Done Gone by Nashville author Alice Randall; a comparison of the original Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” song and 2 Live Crew’s version of it; and a comparison of more recent works created by contemporary photographer Patrick Cariou and appropriation artist Richard Prince. The presentation will explore recent decisions from within the Sixth Circuit and around the country, examining the four factors that courts examine when determining fair use.

Join Us for WaterCooler on 2/26 for The Interplay Between Architectural & Interior Design and Work

Come join us at WaterCooler on Tuesday, February 26 as we explore the Interplay of Work and Design.  How does good (or bad) design impact the quality of work?  Conversely, how do different types of work drive design?

We’ll take a tour of Emma, Inc.’s new space and see some of the other spaces at the newly renovated and historic trolley barns.  We’ll also hear from some of Nashville’s “it” architects and designers: Michael Ward of Allard Ward; Nick Dryden of DAAD; Jeff Casella of Gilbert, McLaughlin and Casella;  Gina Emmanuel of Centric Architecture; and Laret Casella from Casella InteriorsClint Smith and Bo Spessard of Emma will be on-hand to talk about design from a client’s perspective.

Through the literary and performing arts, Southern Word offers creative solutions for youth to build literacy and presentation skills, reconnect to their education and to their lives and act as leaders in the improvement of their communities. In pursuing this mission, Southern Word conducts spoken word residencies, workshops, open mics and shows.

Southern Word’s performance will feature Sean Smith from John Overton High School, Mani Jones from Austin Peay State University and Amanda Howell from Watkins College of Art, Design & Film.

The annual breakfast will take place Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Hutton Hotel in Nashville.
