In The News

The New York Times Features the George Jones Museum

This past weekend, The New York Times featured a story on the new George Jones Museum, a project that several Bone McAllester Norton attorneys worked to open in record time last month. “Mower Meets Moonshine at a Museum for Country Star George Jones” outlines what visitors can find in the 50,000-square-foot building that features a museum, restaurant, rooftop bar, event space and retail store. As Southeast bureau chief Richard Fausset notes, “With one boot in the old Nashville and one in the new, it reflects both a city being remade with gleaming condominium towers and an influx of newcomers, and one where country music remains a central if shifting strand of its DNA.”

Legal Aid Society Honors Charles W. Bone as First Recipient of its Gallatin Community Award

GALLATIN, Tenn., May 13, 2015—Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands, Tennessee’s largest non-profit law firm, has awarded the first ever Gallatin Community Award to Charles W. Bone, founder and chairman of Bone McAllester Norton PLLC. The award was announced Tuesday evening during a reception at the Gallatin Public Library.

Members of Legal Aid Society’s Gallatin office – which serves Macon, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale and Wilson counties – selected Bone as Legal Aid Society’s first-ever community award recipient because he has championed the non-profit law firm in the community and his firm has been a financial and pro bono supporter to Legal Aid Society’s Gallatin office as well as its Nashville office.

The Legal Aid Society Community Awards Program was created to honor individuals in the community for their leadership and compassion in supporting Legal Aid Society’s mission. During the award presentation, Bone was honored with a silver tray and praised for his many years of commitment to community service.

“The impact of Legal Aid Society would be a fraction of what it is without the strong network of community support we’ve received from people like Charles, who has become a real community advocate for our work,” said Steve Christopher, managing attorney of Legal Aid Society’s Gallatin office. “He truly cares for the wellbeing of this community, and he and his firm have been invaluable resources in helping us seek justice for so many people in our service area. He was instrumental in getting a legal aid office in Gallatin in 1977 and continues to help us keep this office open.”

Bone is the founder and chairman of Bone McAllester Norton PLLC. His experience covers many industries and areas of law, including business formation, mergers and acquisitions, capital creation, joint ventures, financial institutions, media law and government relations. Throughout his career, Bone has served in leadership positions for both public and private companies and financial institutions. He was County Attorney for Sumner County, Tennessee, for more than 20 years, and he served as counsel to the Independent Bankers of Tennessee. In 2009, Bone served as Legal Aid Society’s annual campaign chair. He presently serves as General Counsel to the Tennessee Municipal Bond Fund and chairs the United Way of Sumner County campaign chair.

“I’m humbled and overwhelmed by this honor,” Bone said. “It can be so easy for members of the Bar to take for granted the real value of justice in our communities. But when you have the opportunity to work alongside an organization like Legal Aid Society that so valiantly demonstrates the impact of fairness through the law, justice is honored in its greatest sense.”

Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands advocates for fairness and justice under the law. The non-profit law firm offers free civil legal representation, educational programs and advice to ensure people in its region are able to protect their livelihoods, their health and their families. It serves 48 counties from offices in Clarksville, Columbia, Cookeville, Gallatin, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Oak Ridge and Tullahoma. Legal Aid Society is funded in part by United Way. As one of 10 Americans chosen, he will travel to Japan in July, and together, the group will engage in conversations and initiatives aimed at furthering U.S. – Japanese relations.

“Patrick is an extremely bright, motivated individual with a strong background in international relations,” said Charles W. The TOMODACHI-Mitsui & Co. This year’s program will focus on innovation, new technology and industrial development and how all three play a part in the U.S. – Japanese cooperation.

Family Wash, 12th & Porter Among Music Venues Evolving to Stay Alive

Today’s Tennessean features Family Wash and 12th & Porter, two Bonelaw clients, in a cover story about Nashville music venues adapting and changing in order to stay afloat. While most of Music City is under construction with additions and renovations, a growing concern exists among residents that the city’s legacy and character will be lost with the new changes. These venue owners, though, believe growth is a good thing, if done correctly.

Family Wash, which opened in 2002 in a former laundromat in East Nashville, closed Feb. 21. It will reopen in late spring/early summer in a space three times bigger that includes more seating, standing room space and new audio/visual recording and streaming capabilities. Read more about the plans here.

12th & Porter, a venue known for hosting showcases of superstars like Keith Urban and Kings of Leon, closed Feb. 28 and will reopen under new ownership May 1. Infinity Restaurant Group has a renewed focus on the food they will serve and plans to create a spot where people can regularly go to be entertained. Read more about the plans here.

Bone McAllester Norton’s Alcoholic Beverage Law practice provides licensing and regulatory compliance to both venues.

Bone McAllester Norton will Partner with Renasant Bank on Habitat for Humanity Home Build

Bone McAllester Norton and Renasant Bank have teamed up on a weekend build with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville in the Hallmark neighborhood in south Nashville. Construction on the home is slated to begin mid-April, and the two teams will work together on installation of siding and insulation, caulking of plates and panel joins and overall cleaning on Saturday, April 18, 2015. The home is for the Ongo family, who moved here from Ethiopia in 2009, and is seeking a quality, affordable home in a safe neighborhood for their two children.

Renasant Bank is one of Bonelaw’s longtime and respected clients.

“Our firm and all of our attorneys and staff members take great pride in using their passions to participate in activities that promote the betterment of our community,” said Sam J. McAllester III, vice president and member of Bone McAllester Norton who also serves on the advisory board and finance committee for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville. “We are excited to partner with our friends at Renasant Bank once again to provide not just a quality, affordable home but a better life of hope and opportunity to a deserving family in our community.”

Bone McAllester Norton supports a wide range of community programs and activities and strives to make our culture synonymous with good works for clients and the community. Giving back has always been a key part of what the firm does, so joining together with Habitat to provide a life-changing opportunity for others was something that made perfect sense, McAllester noted.

At the heart of Renasant’s mission is the desire to impact positively the communities that it serves. Larry Lovelace, Executive Vice President at Renasant Bank, has prior experience in volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and knew that it would be a good fit for Renasant.

“Renasant Bank is a community lender, and we continuously strive to serve the needs of organizations working for the betterment of our community,” said Lovelace. “Habitat is a leader in providing affordable and quality housing to our community. In conjunction with Bone McAllester Norton, a longtime business partner of Renasant Bank, we are proud to join Habitat’s efforts to build a stronger community.”

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville is an ecumenical Christian ministry that provides the life-changing opportunity for people to purchase and own quality, affordable homes. Since it was established in 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Nashville has built or recycled more than 875 homes, more than 675 locally, and served more than 2,000 family members including 1,450 children. Habitat of Greater Nashville is ranked as the 21st largest residential builder in Middle Tennessee and is in the top 30 of national Habitat affiliates in number of homes built.
