Employment and Labor Attorney James Crumlin Hosts Discussion on Discrimination Within the Recruiting Process for Tennessee Recruiters

Amid an ongoing pandemic, shifting work environments and a fluctuating job market, James’ counsel on reducing discrimination while hiring is more essential than ever.

“Certain questions are off limits,” James said. “Properly navigating and avoiding sensitive areas during the interview process will protect recruiters and employers from liability.”

Attendees will gain a better understanding of the inequalities that exist today and how to make positive changes in their spheres of influence. Other panelists include retired Lt. Gen., Ronald Bailey, USMC, and community engagement professional, Vic Sorrell.

COVID-19 has affected every aspect of our lives, but schools have seen a significant amount of uncertainty and upheaval. The decision to start school virtually, return in-person or create a combination of both is not an easy one, and there are many constantly shifting factors to consider.

James offers advice to school leaders with safety top of mind, from both a health and legal standpoint. While he recommends a move to fully virtual learning, he also presents advice and best practices for school districts that make the decision to host classes in-person. Attorney James Crumlin leads the workout every Monday and Thursday at 6 p.m. on the steps of the Tennessee State Capitol and welcomes all levels to join for free fun and fitness.

Every Monday and Thursday night at 6 p.m., Crumlin leads a group of workout warriors through a free, high intensity workout on the 90-step staircase of the Tennessee Capitol building.

Crumlin, who is a five-time Ironman finisher, started the workout group six and a half years ago and welcomes anyone to participate. In January of 2019, for the second straight year, Crumlin’s class was recognized by Nashville Fit Magazine as Nashville’s Best Free Community Workout in 2018. Check out the full story here.

This past May, over 130 community members joined James to celebrate six years of hard work, dedication, and encouragement. Nashville Fit Magazine dove deeper into the story behind this growing community workout.

Crumlin’s fitness journey began in 2003 when he ran the St. Jude Half Marathon in honor of his mother who passed a year earlier. He continued running the St. Jude Half Marathon every year, “except for 2010. It was really hot that year,” he laughs (Nashville Fit Magazine). The Capitol Steps Workout began in 2012 when a friend suggested to James they increase the intensity of their half marathon training; so they started running the steps at the Tennessee State Capitol. Along the way, in 2015, Crumlin began training for Ironman Triathlons with three friends. This led to his most recent accomplishment, completing his fourth full Ironman this past June, in Nice, France.

As the Capitol Steps Workout continued, more and more friends joined the fun. What began as a couple of friends training for a half marathon has transformed into a community of health and fitness advocates. Every Monday and Thursday night at the steps of the State Capitol building, you will find Crumlin challenging a group of nearly 90 dedicated Nashvillians to pursue a healthy lifestyle for their body, mind, and spirit. The twice-a-week group fitness adventure is free and open to people of all ages and fitness levels.

Here you will find James leading a group through a challenging workout session that will push their limits. The participants form a community that keeps the group encouraged and ready for the challenge. All are welcome to join the fun, free of cost, no matter their skill level.

Crumlin was also recognized as the second Best Ambassador to Nashville’s Health and Fitness Community. When receiving the recognition, Crumlin said, “I am blessed beyond measure and so grateful for your continued support! There are SO many people to thank. I humbly thank and so appreciate everyone who helps/has helped with, attends/has attended the workouts over the last 5 ½ years. Without YOU, there would be no Capitol Steps Workout.”
