The forum will cover the effects of the recent pandemic-driven technological evolution. Panelists will examine developments in the law of patentable subject matter, local patent rules and venue, ethical obligations in a virtual world, the IP of NFTs, the Trademark Modernization Act, and copyright protection for useful articles.

Loren will present on Day 2 of this multiday, live virtual event to discuss how copyright protection applies at the intersection of creative works and utilitarian items. He will be joined by fellow Nashville-based attorneys Adelee Traylor of Butler Snow, LLP, A.J. Bahou of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP, and Brandee Boyd of Butler Snow, Memphis.

Bone Law Attorney Loren Mulraine Participates in a Symposium with the U.S. Copyright Office

Loren E Mulraine Of Counsel at Bone McAllester Norton ProfessionalLoren Mulraine, Bone McAllester Norton counsel and faculty professor and advisor for the Entertainment Law Journal at Belmont, recently partnered with the U.S. Copyright Office to put on a symposium on “Songwriting and the Law: What Attorneys, Songwriters and Publishers Need to Know about the Music Modernization Act.”

The virtual event consisted of three panels covering a variety of topics under the scope of copyrighting and the music industry. Loren discussed how recent changes to copyright law, the MMA and the MLC’s creation will affect different aspects of the legal profession. The event ended with a keynote speech given by Regan Smith, the U.S. Copyright Office General Counsel and Associate Register of Copyrights, who provided an update from the Copyright Office, next steps for the MMA and potential policy issues that could affect the industry in the years to come.

During this panel, Loren moderated a discussion among leaders from the Mechanical Licensing Collective, National Music Publishers’ Association, Digital Media Association and the Nashville Songwriters Association International on the ways the Music Modernization Act (MMA) has streamlined the digital music ecosystem. The panel also offered insight into impending changes to the MMA in January 2021, and what those will mean for songwriters, digital service providers (DSPs), publishers and more.

Bone McAllester Norton Congratulates Leadership Music on 25th Anniversary

Bone McAllester Norton extends congratulations to Leadership Music, which is celebrating its silver anniversary this year. The non-profit educational institution, established in 1989, provides programs designed to further communications and understanding among facets of the entertainment business and to assist established leaders in their roles as decision makers.

Entertainment Attorney Loren Mulraine will Discuss Intersection of Law, Music & Entrepreneurship

Bone McAllester Norton Adds Entertainment Attorney Loren Mulraine

Bone McAllester Norton PLLC announced today the addition of entertainment attorney and Belmont Law professor Loren E. Mulraine. He is the law firm’s 38th attorney.

“Loren is a dynamic attorney who brings unique experience from a career based in the entertainment industry and the college classroom,” said Charles W. Bone, founder and chairman of Bone McAllester Norton. “We look forward to sharing his depth of experience with our clients and sharing our firm’s full-service expertise with Loren’s clients.”

Mulraine will serve as Of Counsel at Bone McAllester Norton, where he will focus his practice on entertainment law, intellectual property and business and corporate law. He will continue in his role at Belmont University College of Law, teaching courses in Copyright Law, Entertainment Law, Media Law and Intellectual Property Law.

In the entertainment industry, Mulraine’s client roster has included Grammy, Dove and Stellar award winners; gold, platinum and multi-platinum selling artists; producers and songwriters; entrepreneurs; filmmakers; and management companies. Mulraine himself is an independent recording gospel artist and songwriter.

Prior to joining Bone McAllester Norton, his professional career spanned from an on-air radio personality and music production to serving as a government contracts attorney with the Federal Aviation Administration in Washington, D.C.  He also previously was a full professor and chair of the Department of Recording Industry at Middle Tennessee State University, where he taught for 14 years.

A graduate of the University of Maryland and the Howard University School of Law, Mulraine is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, National Bar Association, Nashville Bar Association, the Tennessee Intellectual Property Lawyers Association, the Institute for Intellectual Property and Social Justice, Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, The Recording Academy (Grammy-voting member) and the Gospel Music Association.
